AN ADDRESS TO THE CONSCIENCE OF THE WORLD

 

This manifesto summary was not written to spread panic, to turn the anxieties of the present into an inevitable prophecy of destruction, or to add yet another alarmist voice to the chorus of warnings which, when repeated without measure and without solutions, risk exhausting society and driving it toward resignation, but rather to state, with lucidity, responsibility, and respect for truth, that humanity is approaching one of those rare historical crossroads at which numerous conflicts, rivalries, frustrations, geopolitical ambitions, technological revolutions, economic imbalances, ecological crises, and forms of armament may converge at a single critical point, while apparently limited decisions, taken separately by governments each pursuing what it considers to be its own legitimate interest, may together form the mechanism of a catastrophe that no one has openly desired, but that no one has possessed the wisdom, courage, or power to stop in time.
